OUTLANDISH ATTACKS ON THE MUSEUM OF AMERICAN HISTORY

Last Tuesday’s column by Heather Cox Richardson on Substack was difficult to read because it presented many false claims about the Smithsonian’s Museum of American History (NMAH), stated by Trump and his minions.  I worked 4 years at the Smithsonian, and found it to be a remarkable place, fairly trying to present an honest overview of our past.  I served as a volunteer weekend docent at the Museum of Natural History.  I guess Trumplandia hasn't gotten to that museum yet; they describe evolution there!  (OMG!  How can they stand knowing the truth!  Oh wait, they can’t!) 

It is clear the truth about American history is not what Trumplandia, in its ignorance and fear of reality wish to know.  If NMAH were telling the full truth about White America, and had enough space to do it, those whiny white boys and girls of Trumplandia would learn of some real horrors. 

• the tortures and murders committed from the beginning, against Native peoples because white men wanted their land and shaped the law to do whatever they could to get it, even driving whole communities from their land and holding massacres regularly. 

• The museum would show enslavement as a business proposition with torture chambers for any enslaved persons who didn't do exactly as their "masters/owners demanded, including amputations, beatings, and tortures that my brain just can't contemplate and my fingers can’t type here. 

• It would show the massive rapes committed by white men on enslaved women, Native women, and nearly any other women white men could get hold of without being accused of rape, even their own wives. 

• The museum would show the white male use of religion as a cudgel against women and poor folks to make them believe that being treated like slaves, like dirt or ignored altogether was god's will and tolerating it would get them into Heaven, along with their abusers, of course. 

• They would see how the people of Hawaii, Cuba, the Philippines, Guam, Puerto Rico, and other locations were beaten into submission and white men put in charge of those people's lives.  Now Cuba is being blamed for American unrest?  Are you kidding me! 

• No, the United States was not where the beginnings of the end of slavery happened; it was Britain, then Spain.  Brazil kept enslavement after us, but we only had it "officially" dumped after a horrific war led by white men, half of whom thought slavery was god's will and doing massive harm to Black and Native people somehow drove out their savagery or something.    Whitelandia still can’t all agree that people of color are worthy American citizens.

• The museum would have the myriad of inventions by Black Americans, examples of the architecture designed and build by Black Americans, the foods that came from the creativity of Black women trying to figure out how to use everything they could to survive.  There would be the evidence that often white men claimed those inventions and innovations as their own.  It would also show the effective Native farmers’ use of the land in contrast to the ways white farmers along with drought caused the Dust Bowl in the 1930s. 

Some of this information is in the Museum of African-American History and the Museum of the American Indian.  I am guessing the Museum of American History for Trumplandia is supposed to be the white male museum.  Well, white male American history is incomplete, violent, sometimes has some courage, some invention, some creativity, but a whole lot of violence and dismissal of everyone who is not rich, white, and male, pretending that white men did everything by themselves; of course, they didn't and the "supporters" were not just enslaved persons, handmaids, and apprentices.  They were full actors in the history of America!

I thank Historian, Heather Cox Richardson for spotlighting this.  It took a long time for me to read the disgusting lies being told about NMAH’s curator/director who knows far more about America's history then the entire Klan of Trumplandia combined.  Then Republican Reps. Mace and Boebert had to prove their anti-woman Bonafides to please their master, Donald Trump.  The writers of the ridiculous anti-Smithsonian report got all the buzzwords in:  slavery, transgender, founders (about whom they know nothing), and demonstrated their racism, misogyny , xenophobia (all of which they protest the museum shows when it is they who exhibit them every day).  These are trigger words for the ignorant MAGAs who want so badly to believe they are superior to everyone else when they are just mediocre whiny white people who have privilege but can't stand anyone else having anything.      

Signs are being produced that will be posted outside the National Museum of American History.  They will tell everyone to go to other museums to get “the truth.”  I hope the employees and visitors to NMAH will look at those signs and be reminded of the utter ignorance, power-grubbing nature of those who forced them to be posted.  I hope people will just laugh out loud when they see them.  That might be the best way to handle this childish toddleresque sign-posting.  JUST LAUGH OUT LOUD IN FRONT OF THOSE SIGNS, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!!, EVERY DAY, then march right into the museum to learn about us, the American people! 

LAYING IT OUT

I do believe our various media gave Donald Trump the tools he needed to become a national, then global menace.  Trump was "glib," a New Yorker with money and properties (didn't matter how he got them or what was being done with them), and he had friends. 

This trio of circumstances launched an ignorant, narcissistic, hateful charlatan onto a stage where he didn’t belong.  Unfortunately, the various media found a lot for themselves in what he was doing, and kept promoting him ("The Apprentice, Miss Universe, The Regis and Kathy Lee Show” ).  They enhanced Trump's actions and created a “star” who could travel in all sorts of circles plugging himself and his supposed greatness. 

However while Trump was being lauded by  the media, he was involved in let’s call them “crimes” that included theft, rape, fraud, rape of minors, lying, cheating contractors for his properties, red lining, and more, on to the present.  Some people knew about Trump’s behavior, but just considered him one of the “bad boys” who were to be tolerated.  There were rumors of his involvement with the New York Mafia, though people rarely talk about it. 

Developing a “connection” with New York’s media was critical to Trump’s rise.  From the day of Trump’s ride down the “golden escalator” in 2015, Trump or his actions were the first or second phrase or story in nearly every newscast.  That was true even when he wasn’t president or anything else official, and it is still happening.  That was primarily because he did or said things designed to direct attention to himself.

Trump’s dementia now makes it harder for him to even know what is going on, but that doesn't matter since he,  Toddler-Trump (as I refer to him), has an entire toddler pool of sycophants surrounding him that we pay for that includes a  traitorous white house staff (Miller, Vought, Wiles, Vance, etc.; 6 Supreme Court justices, Republicans in Congress; all cabinet heads; all whom Trumplandia nominated for any government position with Senate approval; Republicans throughout state legislatures; the Heritage Foundation, The Federalist Society, and other similar right-wing political organizations; many white evangelical fundamentalists; the oligarchs, including Musk, Theil, the Ellisons, and more, who use Trump as much as he uses them. 

That sounds like a lot, but in reality, it is a small minority of Americans.  However, they are in power and as they say, "have all the weapons."  It seems to me we are going to need a significant resistance group formed everywhere in this nation to stand up to these anti-American, anti-democratic thugs who have an ignoramus at their head and a lot of money in their pockets.  We need to be louder, broader, and more demanding in protest of Trumplandia.

This group of Conservative, Republican, amoral entities are doing their best to undermine our government.  They began in Trump’s first term with a huge tax cut that went nearly all to the super rich who already have far far too much.  Then in the second term, Trump released the illegal DOGErs (Department of Government Efficiency) young computer guys   under Elon Musk, to tear apart many of our government agencies and departments.  They are responsible for the deaths of at least 700,000 people around the world who depended on the food, medicines, and healthcare provided by US-AId.  We don’t have a count yet of the deaths here from programs cut and conspiracy theorists in important offices making false pronouncements. 

Trump and the Dept. of Homeland Security (Dhs) set ICE on innocent immigrants in our communities, while lying they were only going after serious criminals.  Alas, lies are Trumplandia’s coin of the realm, and Republicans these days must be able to lie with skill all the time if necessary (if Trump orders them to do it). 

Trump now owns the Republican Party and  our amoral Supreme Court Roberts 6. 

 

Each member of Trumplandia has their “job.”  Congressional Republicans push through every stupid, illegal bill Trump and his white house toddler pool give them.  The Roberts 6 rule on cases in ways that will give Republicans more seats in congress and enhance the racial, gender, and other differences among us.  Republicans in legislatures across the country must take their states to levels of racism and misogyny that haven’t been seen for decades.

 

Trump’s cabinet was nominated and approved because they will permit Trump to do as much damage to this nation as possible.  Trump ordered the start of a stupid deadly war for his own ego and he and Pete Hegseth of DOD have been playing it as though it were a video game, adding destroying small boats in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific as their bonus plays.  All of this is illegal internationally, but who is going to charge them or hold them accountable, particularly now that Trump is building a white house fortress as described by Heather Cox Richardson (and Trump himself, although not in those exact words).  Trump is also trying to reward the January 6^th insurrectionists for their something:  bravery, loyalty to Trump, willingness to “stand ready?”

 

I suspect everyone I write to knows all of this, so I want to provide some suggestions for things we can do to surround these thugs with a wall of disapproval created by the diversity that is America, something that really scares Trumplandia.

• Make a list of the issues most important to you.  Figure out who to contact regarding that issue, then write, call, sign petitions, etc. related to each issue.
• Find and support organizations with similar values to yours, read their publications, and support them financially if you can, even if it is only a tiny donation.
• Attend public protests, townhalls, and local actions related to the issues that concern you and your community most.  You can’t do everything, so do what you can when you can.
• Talk to young people about what is going on and encourage them to pay attention, to work hard to get a good education, even if they are a little bored.  Those in power now don’t want them to become educated at all, so do it to spite them.
• Read books from different cultures, particularly those the right-wing fearmongers want to ban, then share favorites with others.
• Use public transportation when possible.  Walk when it makes sense.  Use your car less often.  Encourage others to do this too.
• Stand with neighbors to stop ICE, using a warning system if you see them.  Protest them when you can.
• Attend school board meetings when possible to say your piece about what is happening in the schools in your area. 
• VOTE IN EVERY SINGLE ELECTION!!!  Don’t tell yourself “ah this election is just a primary; it doesn’t matter”; it does!  Those In power want us to stay home so their pathetic whiny white candidates can get into or stay in power; we don’t need them!

 

I bet you have lots more ideas.  When we pool them together, we can have a set of strategies to stand against the authoritarians, the would be kings.  We can stand strong in this 250^th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence, and tell Trump and his toddler pool that We the People of the United States aren’t gonna take them and their anti-American bullying anymore”!

AN ILLEGAL UNNECESSARY WAR

We are in a war with Iran.  That sounds unbelievable!  There was no vote in Congress.  There was a minor build-up, but little notion of what a conflict with Iran would look like, no strong purpose for this war, and it is being called a war by Donald Trump and the media that are tied to his every word.

It does work to put Baby Donnie's name on this war insanity, but he did not orchestrate this.  He ordered the attacks, so has, as “commander-in-chief,” ultimate responsibility.  But, he had enormous help because he is not smart enough about war to do much.  He blathers a lot, lies a lot, blames everyone when something doesn't work, and cannot plan anything that makes sense.  Trump threatens anyone, with backup from ensnared lawyers, Elon Musk, and the other oligarchs if they don't do exactly as they are told.  His current "helpers" are just about as stupid as he is:  Miller, Vought, Vance, and especially Hegseth.  None of them know anything about conducting a war, even the two who supposedly served in some capacity or other, but not in command of active troops. 

Hegseth fired many among the military leadership that would have been aware of how to plan for conflict, particularly the women because, well, misogyny works so well for our Baby Donnie.  Then the generals, admirals, and whoever else was in charge followed illegal orders as the veterans in our Congress reminded them they shouldn't do. 

I just read recently that there is a whole cadre of US military fools who are trying to bring about Armageddon, thinking that killing a lot of people through starting a nuclear war will send them to "heaven" or something.  It seems to me they are crazy, but crazy is what is present and welcome throughout this entire Trumpian regime!  That is shameful, but also terrifying!

A majority of Americans do not want this war and have made that known, but it seems Trump is so wrapped up in his own fantasy world, he does not care.  He thinks he has “obliterated” the Iranian military and whatever else his brain soaked in dementia thinks has been “obliterated.”  I think our Baby Donnie has fixated on the word “obliterated” and is running with it because it sounds so powerful.  It is not true that our military has obliterated anything in this war except maybe, our positive reputation with our allies.

We the People do need to make known how we feel about this war through signing petitions, writing directly to our representatives and senators, calling them, and attending a “no Kings” rally on Saturday.  Donald Trump and his white house toddler pool think we are all stupid, with him as the smartest guy anywhere, worthy of being king of the world.  We need to find ways to prove he and his handlers are wrong about that, and everything else too.  

ST. PATRICK’S DAY THOUGHTS

This morning I was “watching” the St. Patrick’s Day Parade” rerun on CBS Philly.  The parade has been held in Philadelphia since 1771.  That surprises people because we think that the Irish only came here in the 19^th century to build our railroads and because of the potato famine AFTER 1846.  That there was an active Irish community in Philadelphia before the signing of the Declaration of Independence is not usually part of our history lessons. 

We seem to like to put people and events into boxes that we can readily identify and fit those boxes on a timeline that we can easily follow, that is if we care at all. 

William Pen envisioned a colony, Pennsylvania where people of all backgrounds could come and live in peace.  He didn’t understand the Native peoples, but thought they should have a place too, as well as people from all over Europe.  He welcomed the first Germans in 1683 which opened the door to many future arrivals. 

The English came and settled all over Eastern North America, but they were joined almost from the beginning with Scots, Irish, French, and Swedes.

Enslaved peoples from Africa were brought here assumed to be illiterate “savages.”  In reality, many were Muslims who held an important world faith.  Others shared the faith of the peoples from which they came.  They may have been unaware of the ways of English people, but it became clear to anyone who paid attention that Black people were enormously talented, but their talents were used in service to white people whose faith not only permitted enslavement, but even promoted it. 

The white Christian faith of the time also permitted judgment of other people by their color, language, faith, country of origin, and other attributes which were categorized related to which were most relevant to the folks doing the judging. 

Despite the judgments, it is clear Philadelphia had an Irish community large enough to have a parade in the city 5 years before our attempt at independence.  I suspect at that time there were no signs that said “No Irish Need Apply” as one would find   75 or so years later.  I would imagine there were Black people watching the parade and appreciating the marchers too.  There was a significant free Black community in the city due to emancipation by former owners and sailors from ships docked in the harbor.  I suspect if we could check old records, we could find all sorts of other folks who settled here and helped shape this land even before our independence from Britain. 

For me it is tremendously sad that this nation’s people have decided to regularly elect people who do not appreciate our real history of diversity.  They prefer the white history that says since the founders were all white men this nation is just white men with the rest of us inferior to them because we have no history here that is worthy of mention. 

Nearly an entire political party, Republican, has chosen this “reasoning” and is sticking to it no matter the evidence to the contrary.  They see those who are not rich, white, and male as those to be used by themselves in whatever capacity they choose for us. 

• They want immigrants of color kicked out of the country.  They don’t realize just how much of the work those folks do and how much a part of our communities, even Philadelphia they are. 
• They want women to be in the home taking care of their hubby and popping babies as fast as possible to “replenish the white race” or something equally outrageous and insulting.  It’s fine to choose staying at home to do that,  but to be forced is criminal!  They have decided that teaching and nursing are not real “professions” of course, because the majority of those professinals are women.
• They want people of color to give up their high-level jobs to white men whenever white men come calling for that job.  We have seen what happens when such a scenario plays out.  The current Trumpian Regime has nominated and the Senate Republicans have approved the most incompetent set of white men in official government roles in our history.  The women they have approved are equally incompetent, but must look like Barbies and act like the inanimate doll too, and they do. 
• They want our “free press” to blurt out constant lies given to them by those incompetent white men and women in charge, I guess to make those ignoramuses seem somehow worthy of their positions.  They pretend the truth is not worth paying attention to, even when it involves the lives of our fellow Americans and immigrants who are our neighbors.  They arrest Black journalists, well, maybe just because they can, hoping no one will care.
• They give huge sums of money to anyone who will do their bidding and use their money and influence to bring more power and money to Trump and his entourage and toddler pool of white folks in government who have no clue.

So, this St. Patrick’s Day, we need to think about the rich heritage this nation holds and the many advances we have because of that great diversity.  Making enemies of those more talented than themselves means this Trumpian Regime is settling for what is often the worst of us instead of the rich talented diversity that is America.  If we don’t stop them, we all lose.  Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  See you next week at “No Kings 3.”

A CASE FOR IMPEACHMENT

Let’s face it, Donald Trump has dementia and no longer (if ever) abides by our Constitution, the founding document he swore to uphold and defend.  It seems a case for impeachment is appropriate at this moment.  In fact, a case for the impeachment of this entire Trump regime is strong.  Here are some of the charges I believe should be made against Trump and his Klan.  I identify Trump as the culprit, but he has been assisted by a wide range of sycophants and cabinet officials as well as many in our military and the rich oligarchs. 

• He has unleashed troops against American cities, our citizens as well as others legally residing here, even leading to murder and “accidental” death in numerous cases. 
• He has established concentration camp prisons for people arrested by ICE and the CBP (border patrol), which are run by contracted rich corporations who treat those incarcerated there as though they are slaves, even animals.
• He has appointed people to critical positions who are unqualified then threatened members of Congress if they didn't approve them.  Those appointees prove every day their incompetence and utter disdain for our Constitution and the American people. 
• He was an insurrectionist who now pretends that insurrection was some kind of act of love for this nation, after he pardoned the whole band of insurrectionists. 
• He threatens our ability to vote, trying to undermine all aspects of our constitutional right to vote, even pushing Republican legislators to pass unnecessary acts to stop people from voting, possibly getting the US Postal Service involved.
• He has attacked small boats in the Caribbean and the Eastern Pacific, killing around 140 people, claiming without evidence that they are drug smugglers, threatening the US even though those boats could not have reach the United States.
• He has attacked the sovereign state of Venezuela, kidnapping the President and First Lady of the nation, bringing them here, again with little to no evidence that they have been involved with smuggling drugs to the United States.
• He has threatened Cuba and stopped oil shipments and other necessities, which has put the lives of the people of Cuba at risk.  There is no stated goal for this cruelty.
• He has threatened numerous nations in the Western Hemisphere for US military intervention if they don’t comply with his demands.
• He has illegally accepted gifts, even quite expensive gifts from other nations (emoluments) which the Constitution explicitly forbids.
• He had the East Wing of the white house demolished without anyone’s permission even though he does not own the building and had no right to make changes without oversight.
• He and Elon Musk invented a group called DOGE that raided government buildings, stole our personal information, threatened employees, fired hundreds of thousands of Federal workers, dismissed the investigators who help to keep us safe by checking food and drug safety, aircraft and flight safety, shipping, imports, stopping diseases from impacting our people, and more.
• He has taken over the Department of Justice, installing an AG whose experience would not have prepared her for the job.  She was one of Trump’s personal lawyers, so she now has turned the DOJ into Trump’s personal revenge agency, firing anyone who doesn’t go along with it.
• He has approved the arrest of journalists for covering protests in Minneapolis because they are Black and were attempting to find out the truth about an ICE operative.  
•   And now, he and Netanyahu of Israel have started a war with Iran based on a lie about nuclear weapons, with no evidence, and no approval by Congress.  This is the same BS Bush,Jr. used to get us into a costly war with Iraq. 

Any one of these acts should have been grounds for impeachment, but this war on Iran, hooking up with Israel, a nation that is perpetrating Genocide on Palestinians, and bombing the capital of Iran, killing its leader and civilians, purposely to send a message to the Iranian leadership is the line that should never have been crossed.  How can this entire regime be permitted to remain in power.  The entire cadre needs to be impeached and immediately charged with high treason, then held accountable in our courts. 

We’ll see if Republicans have the guts to do the right thing for a change!  I hope they do before we start wars with more nations and our democracy fades into history.

The Art of the Con

I support several threads on the Substack platform and regularly respond to people’s comments.  I responded to a recent comment by Mary Trump on her Substack thread “The Good In Us,” about people being conned into supporting Donald Trump, who has no clue.  I wrote the following (with a few updates).

It is truly sad so many Americans would prefer to blindly follow an old man with dementia than stop to think  then ask, why.  Trump has been a con artist all his life, nothing new. 

I suppose the conning art has been with us from the beginnings of humanity.  We learn about it over time through actions we would consider ridiculous.  But, the cons got more sophisticated over the centuries, or rather  the artists procured more assistants who can modify the message to suit the tastes of whoever is being targeted.  Right now, Trump’s targets are vulnerable people being used by corporations, men of wealth, and a political system that promotes grift that catches people in its nets set out here to snare those who have grievances. 

The “catch” happens often when power resides in the hands of totally unqualified folks who have been supported and popularized by men who have an agenda that includes power for themselves.  Those folks want an ignorant con artist, Donald Trump, to procure what they want.  Today's actors include the members of Trump's "cabinet," none of whom is qualified for the job they hold and none have the interests of the American people in mind.  Joined with them are the Steves, Miller and Bannon, JD Vance, and the rich fools:  Theil, Vought, Musk, and a bunch of other billionaires who believe themselves entitled because of some kind of brilliance they believe they have, also wanting a gigantic slice of the American pie. 

With so much control of our media held by wealthy corporate America, that vulnerable crowd can be courted hour after hour, with lies, disinformation, and gaslit to the Con's heart's content.  Those folks have been permitted to gain far too much wealth for their own good and ours.  They buy seats in Congress often for ignorant or inexperienced white folks who will do the bidding of the far too rich.  They have even gotten their supporters on our courts since there are no real qualifications for seats in our critical judiciary system or anything else related to our government.  Heck, they don't even have to know our Constitution, something we see proven daily.  

I wrote this response, wondering if there were anything we could do to cut the reach and power of the wealth being used against the American people for the benefit of some kind of oligarchic system that lets rich white men rule.  Such a system should be acceptable to no one!  However, over time, we have been courted with a host of programs glorifying rich folks, even their criminal behavior as though it were an entertainment in real life as in our media. We are not amused! (or entertained) 

Happy Halloween!  We certainly do have “evil” ghouls and goblins haunting our congress and nearly every part of our government right now.  It’s too bad we can’t just exorcize them!

MESSING WITH OUR HIGHER EDUCATION

You have probably heard that the Trump Regime is asking nine U.S. universities to sign an agreement pledging to uphold the regime’s higher education priorities, or risk losing out on a range of grants and other financial assistance for the university’s research and other programs, and it is likely those are just the first.  That is a kind of blackmail and totally unacceptable. 

So far, 5 universities have said “”NO,” but 4 still have not responded.  I just learned Vanderbilt, my alma mater,  is one of those universities being “offered” this compact and has not responded.

The major stipulations are not items any government should be demanding of any educational institution at any level.

According to Wikipedia, Key Demands of the Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education include:

• Capping international undergraduate students at 15% of the total student body.

• Freezing tuition rates for five years. (the only one that could be good)

• Adopting policies that prevent the belittling of conservative ideas and ensure First Amendment rights are upheld on campus.

• Implementing admissions practices that do not consider sex, ethnicity, race, nationality, political views, or other similar factors.

I had heard, but not been able to confirm that Vanderbilt was talking about ditching their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in student acceptance.  I received an email from Chancellor Daniel Diermeier this evening.  Here is the final paragraph of that email.

Vanderbilt believes deeply in the power of constructive dialogue, particularly among people of differing views and perspectives. This is often how the greatest progress is made.  We look forward to continuing the conversation—on our campus and with leaders in government and higher education—as we work toward our shared goal of restoring public trust in higher education and ensuring that America’s universities remain the best in the world.  

It sounds to me as though compliance is in the offing.  The following is my response to the email.  
 

Hello Vanderbilt Administration” 

I noticed in this email that students were only mentioned at the very end along with parents and alumni as commenters.  It seems to me that there should be some students involved in the compact discussion.  I am sure you are aware that this is not a compact at all, but a desire of those who have no idea what they are doing, to force colleges and Universities to do the bidding of those who have no clue but want power over and compliance in advance from those institutions. 

I am sure you know this, so I don’t understand this talk about sharing different points of view.  When, in a democracy, one side wants to take over the universities, media, education in general and pretty much everything else, that is not differing points of view, that is “Truth” in the face of autocracy which is made up of lies, cheating, fraud, and dismissal of the thoughts, needs, and beliefs of others.  In this case, for this regime pumping out something as appalling as this “compact” the only folks worth listening to are rich, white, pseudochristian, “straight” men.  To the regime, the rest of us are irrelevant, worthy of only being bossed around by and made subservient to those rich white etc. men.  If you are not sure of that, this Saturday’s “No Kings” rallies and marches should have let you know. 

 I admit I will be very disappointed, perhaps even quite angry if Vanderbilt submits to this undemocratic, unamerican nonsense by Trump and his project 2025ers, all done for their own gains and the gains of their billionaire sponsors, and election buyers.

 I don’t know if this will have an impact, I’m guessing not because it seems only the Administration and a few department heads will be making the decision.  I hope enough students, parents, and alums have told them we do not want compliance; We want defiance!

TRUMP AND THE TODDLER POOL, EVIL AWAKENED

What Trump and his toddler pool have been doing for the past 7+ months is immoral, but it is also mostly illegal.  We can't forget that.  We have laws which make it possible for us to live together in this nation in peace.  Trump and crew break laws at every turn hoping it will get them something they want, either power or money or both. 

Trump does not want peace nor do the billionaire oligarchs (Trumplandia in the White House).  This collection of anti-democracy folks includes the nominees approved by Senate Republicans for high office in our government plus Republican legislators throughout the country.  I think their ultimate goal is world domination by oligarchy, with them on top!  They want action as long as they get to order it, getting others to do their dirty work.  They claim to be victims, but have no idea what victims experience because none of them is a victim of anything but their own greed, ignorance, dismissal of the truth, narcissism, contempt for everyone not them. 

The most significant emotions they possess are fear and anger, with a heaping helping of hatred.  They are afraid of not getting away with their coup and they toss that fear out on everyone else, spreading it like a plague, to make all of us comply.  They are furious that anyone dares question their actions because they think they are and should be masters of the universe even though they are not even masters of themselves, you know, like adult toddlers. 

It is critical that we are going to have to stand tall against them and get low when necessary because these mostly white men and their female surrogates know no depth to which they will not go.   They don’t realize they are not worthy of respect beyond that due any human being.

In my way of thinking, this is EVIL!  There is no concern for anyone who will be impacted by their senseless rulings, pronouncements, search for old laws they can reimpose on this nation, imposition of military rule, and more.  The Trump pool knows their fearful leader, the guy they pretend to bow and scrape to is mentally and physically failing, but they are positioning themselves to be the guy who takes over.  The American people do not like any of them, but it won’t matter because Vought, Musk, Thiel, Bessent, or one of the other too-rich fools will try to jump in, hoping the ground has been properly laid for them to take over when the time comes.  In the meantime, they are trying to get Trump to do as much damage as possible so it will be easier for them to breeze in and strike the final blow. 

The EVIL ones are friends of Putin of Russia, Orban of Hungary, and any other dictator in the world they can find and convince to join them in the takeover.  Those guys are all super rich and can appreciate the superrich of this current swarm of a-holes, all cut from the same greedy narcissistic cloth.

Their current efforts involve targeting everyone who is not them.  They are distracting us by having masked thugs kidnap people, supposed immigrants off our streets, claiming they are criminals despite the fact that most of them contribute more to the nation than the oligarchs who are primarily “takers.”  They have also targeted trans persons and their parents, Black Americans, Democrats of any background, and of course women, something that really feels especially wrong on this 105th anniversary of the certification of the 19th Amendment.  They are working hard to create a throw-back woman, “trad wife” who will stay at home, make their house perfect for their hubby and the many kids they are supposed to have, white kids of course.  Those rich white men who will never be pregnant want to be sure that every woman who gets pregnant, particularly if they are raped, must carry that fetus to term.  Every piece of this effort is EVIL, but it keeps the MAGAs thinking they are not in the Trumpers’ sights, when they are right there with the rest of us, waiting for the right moment to be targeted!

I have read one way to deal with this EVIL is to mock them in a wide variety of ways:  their specific actions, their character, their greed, their inability to handle the truth even when it is right in front of them.    We need cartoonists, influencers, late-night hosts, editorials, Substack and other platforms, journalists, and pretty much everyone else to, without defaming anyone, mock the crap out of them, showing them and everyone else how unworthy of holding any position of authority they are and that their ideas for the rest of us are childish and unacceptable!  We must name this as EVIL and point out as often and in as many ways as possible just how they are dividing us for their own benefit. We don’t have to take it!

DEI, NOT A BLOW AGAINST WHITE MEN

It seems Donald Trump and his handlers are obsessed with DEI.  They toss the letters out as though cursing in anger.  Trump would have no idea what the letters he is blurting out mean if asked by a member of the White House press corps, which is why none of them ever ask him when he tosses the swear word at them.

DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) is the term used to identify efforts to make businesses, workplaces, education, and other entities more inclusive of the variety of people living in this country.  It used to be called “Affirmative Action” until the Supreme Court said educational entities could no longer accept students through Affirmative Action, even though it was not clear the justices even understood it beyond their thinking that it meant letting Black students in.  Their wrong understanding was that white students would be kept out and replaced by Black students of lesser ability.  That was not Affirmative Action, but it didn’t matter because the word of the Supreme Court is law, right?

 

Colleges and Universities were looking for a positive way to make their student bodies, faculties, and programs more inclusive, but it seems the majority white Supreme Court conservative justices (including Thomas the white wannabee) just couldn’t have that, a white man who might not get in where he wanted to attend because an inferior woman or Black man got in instead.  So Affirmative Action was labeled by right-wingers as baaaad!

 

Women and people of color were not going to be stopped, so a new title for such inclusive education and institutions was needed.  Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) was the name settled on.  This title has served to recruit and keep thousands of students so student bodies could be more diverse not only by race and gender, but also by experience, talents/skills, and region. 

 

The new right-wing trope from white men is that they are being excluded by those less-educated, less qualified inferiors.  It is true that white males will no longer automatically be accepted over everyone else, but competition is good if without prejudice. Whether the cry of male exclusion is untrue doesn’t matter because it sounds good to groups like the MAGAs.  They take as gospel whatever is tossed out to them either by their Toddler-Trump or that shows up on Fox Not Nearly News, mostly white men, with a few white women hired to be the female faces of male aggression and claimed superiority.  Viewers came to believe that what the right-wing media presented must be true, no evidence required. 

 

I was commenting on a Substack thread this morning and one of the participants tried to say that DEI discriminates against white men.  I had to reread that one several times to get the gist of his words.  I challenged him saying that he as a white man has privilege just for being white and male.  He claims he does not have any such privilege because his life has been hard.  He couldn’t get the idea that it is likely that had he been a woman or person of color, his life would most likely have been even more difficult. 

 

I am amazed at the inability of some white men to get it that they are consider the default human in many parts of the world, including here.  They seem to want to wallow in the injustices done to themselves and their white male buddies.  They believe they have never discriminated against anyone and that every single job or opportunity that came to them was due to their own personal abilities, skills, and superior thinking and education.  That may be true, but it may equally be due to their male whiteness.  They will never know because white privilege means people will always see them first. 

 

One important thing to remember is that this is not really the fault of white men in general.  Those living now didn’t set up the system, devise ways to be sure that everyone not white and male would be kept in place below men.  Today’s white males didn’t skew laws to favor white men and nor did they institute slavery and the other systems that kept white men on top.  However, it is white men with some support that keep those practices in place.

 

That being said, today’s white men of privilege can learn to understand their privilege and can move toward Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion if they choose. 

• They can take time to look at their situation and that of other white men they know and see how the system has worked for them. 
• - They can listen to women and people of color and note the critique that could change the ways white men relate to the people around them. 
• - They can ask questions of themselves:  do I objectify women by their looks; do I assume everyone else is less qualified or coming after what I have; do I vote for white men even if I have doubts because I can’t envision a woman or person of color in that job/position; do I treat a white male boss differently from any other boss?  These are just a few of the questions white men can ask themselves.  They are questions all of us can ask ourselves too because white men did not get their privileged position on their own.  Women provided the early education that promoted that stance.  People of color just as white men and women, have hierarchies of who they see as superior and inferior.

 

DEI is just a tool to help us appreciate the diversity of humanity on this planet and to realize that each individual and group has something important to offer the whole and that no group is better than the rest in everything.  DEI gives a framework for business, education, the workplace, communities and nations to start to notice others and the gifts they bring to the table.  It helps us to develop those gifts for the benefit of all. 

 

trump and his white male cadre of sycophants do not want self-examination.  They want things the way they were at some mythical time in the past when straight white men ruled in every sphere of life.  That time will not come again, so it is up to all of us, including white males to embrace DEI (whatever it ends up being called), and demand its use everywhere for the benefit of all.  Then challenge when Trump or anyone else tosses out the term DEI as a slur or curse.  Such contempt proves they have no clue.

THE CABINET OF INCOMPETENTS

On April 2, 2025, Robert Reich presented his weekly poll, this time about the presidential cabinet , put into place since January 20^th.  OMG!  It was a hard poll.  The question, “Which of Trump’s cabinet officers is the worst?  His choices:  Pete Hegseth of Defense, RFK,Jr. of Health and Human Services, Pam Bondi the Attorney General, and Marco Rubio Secretary of State. 

There is another cruel incompetent who should be included, the new director of Homeland Security (a cabinet-level position that should not even exist, has far less reason than the Department of Education which actually does positive things to help our children and young people).  Kristi Noem The head is a dog murderer who feels about the rest of us the way she seems to have felt about her dog before she killed it and dumped it into a quarry. 

Among the poll members, there's Rubio whose family were "refugees" from Cuba.  They and their cohort came here and did a lot of disrupting over the years, particularly in Florida and few "long-time American citizens” demanded they be deported and that their children, like "Little Marco" are not citizens.  What an evil hypocrite! 

There is nothing positive to say for either RFK,Jr. or Hegseth.  Neither of them should ever be in charge of anything since they can't even take care of themselves properly.  They are both ignorant of not only the departments they were foolishly approved by our Senators to run but ignorant of just about everything else too; they prove it every single day, putting us all at risk.  I chose RFK,Jr. in the poll because he is undermining the already precarious health of this nation with his lies and disinformation, putting us and the rest of the world at risk. 

Pam Bondi’s  law school should erase her from their records of graduates or rather should never have graduated her in the first place; she is a person of no moral compass who knows nothing of our Constitution and cares less than that about it or this nation, only her infatuation with Donald Trump, adult-toddler-in-chief.  She like the rest of the Trumpers and Trumpettes just makes things up as she goes along just to see what she can get away with, and she is getting away with a lot, or thinks she is. 

They are all despicable, the whole crew, like McMahon in Education and the rest of the ignoramuses our Senate Republicans and a few Democrats chose to sick on us.  None of them has a clue, but tries to pretend they are working for their god and will follow his wishes even though dementia has clearly taken hold.  They were chosen since they play the role of sycophant quite well and together represent the worst of America, not one of them worthy of any positive recognition.  Thank you Senate Republicans for proving your judgment is just as poor as Trump and his handlers and fan club hoped it would be.  Justice would be that every single Senate member who voted for these destroyers and incompetents would be voted out.  Not likely, but one can dream! 

WHEN WILL ENOUGH BE ENOUGH?

I keep wondering when Republicans who claim to be patriotic Americans, are going to say "enough." 

• - It wasn’t enough when Trump pardoned all the January 6^th insurrectionists, people who threatened their own lives.  Trump and his handlers were just too lazy to determine who were the ones who had actually done the most violence, although that information was readily available.
• It clearly wasn't when Musk and his wrecking crew fired (without permission from anyone but Trump), thousands of the government workers who actually know how to make our government work and keep this nation safe. 
• It wasn't enough when Musk/Trump dismantled the USAID that helps protect the people of the world, including us from horrific diseases and to help people deal with war and poverty. 
• - It wasn't enough when the concept of a free public education for all children was maligned by Musk/Trump getting rid of about 50% of the Department of Education that provides funding and services for children with learning and functioning differences as well as scholarship money for college. 
• - It wasn't enough when Trump/Vance in tandem insulted President Zelensky of Ukraine and lied that Ukraine began the war, clearly started by Russia. 
• - It wasn't enough when the FAA was undermined and air travel was put at risk, now supposedly to be under the rule of Musk's Starlink or whatever other BS entity the ignorant greedy Musk illegally comes up with for his own benefit. 
• - It wasn't enough when Musk and his toddler troop began messing with Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, programs that have worked tremendously well for nearly 90 years for Social Security and 60 for Medicare and Medicaid, programs we pay for from our first jobs onward.  They are closing local offices so people can't go directly to get help, while requiring them to go to local offices to register.  Then they started taking some people off the roles, claiming the people are actually dead when they are not. Musk, a super-rich recent citizen knows nothing about Social Security or any of the programs he is working to destroy for the benefit of himself and rich white people and corporations. 
• - It isn't enough now when our military under a rapist, misogynist, racist incompetent, Hegseth removes the courage of people of color and women from their websites, pretending only white men did anything to protect America, a massive lie, of course. 
• - It wasn’t enough when immigrants were grabbed off the street, people who hold green cards and have done nothing illegal, unlike Musk and Trump and disappeared, 200+ of them sent to a torture prison in El Salvador, others to countries they have not lived in since infancy, not knowing anyone or speaking the language.
• It wasn’t enough when Trump declared there is no climate crisis, global warming isn’t real, and that “drill baby drill” will be the chant instead.  That is happening while Republicans and their constituents are dealing with terrible storms, floods, and wildfires made far worse by global warming.  The Republican states are being hit worst with little to no way to manage without government help.  Yep, those people voted for this to happen to them because their racism and misogyny couldn’t let them do anything else.
• It wasn’t enough when Trump and his clown show threatened judges and our courts, you know, the ones that oppose the illegal things Trump and Kump are doing.

• It is truly shameful that I hear no Republicans and few Democrats standing up and yelling "stop."  It must be something pretty powerful that Trump is holding over Republicans in Congress these days to keep them either mouthing just what Trump’s handlers want them to say or remaining silent.  They need to stand up. 
•  
• At this point, it seems to me that it should not matter what Donald Trump and his Goon Troops have on anyone in Congress because the harms being done to this country will overshadow anything else Trump can make up about them.  It seems living without a spine or moral compass works for Republicans, MAGAs, and some Democrats and Independents too.  Shame on them all.  I do wish there were a way to remove Trump/Vance/Musk from office without violence because none of them should be in charge of anything and may only be in power because they found a way to cheat in this past election using secret cheating algorithms, in the "{swing states" of course, somehow just barely taking every single one of them.  That really does stretch credibility.
